'il giardino' - New works by Cliona Doyle

Cliona Doyle's new works were inspired by and made on location at 'Il Certose di Pontignamo', a 14th century monastery just outside Sienna. The monastery overlooks formal walled gardens, which contain an extensive orchard and olive grooves. In this show the artist explores the significance of a medieval garden both for it’s symbolic meanings, aesthetic qualities and a means to provide sustenance for the monastery and it’s inhabitants.

In Doyle's striking compositions she contrasts light and airy portrayals of exotic fruit trees with denser, more painterly carborundum prints of life size lemon and olive trees. Her close up image of a Japanese persimmon serves to create an almost abstract arrangement of both colour and line. This exhibition reveals nature’s delicate balance of growth and renewal.

Cliona Doyle graduated from the National College of Art & Design with an honours degree in Fine Art Printmaking. Since then she has had several successful solo shows and continues to devote her time to developing new works based on nature and botanical themes. She is currently a director of Graphic Studio Dublin.
