Graphic Studio Dublin Graduate Award Winner's Exhibition

Artists: Louise Farrelly, Paula Fitzpatrick, David Lunney & Nicole Tilley

As part of our ongoing support and promotion of emerging artists, Graphic Studio Gallery hosts an exhibition of award winning graduate artists under our graduate award scheme. This exhibition showcases the work of four artists who graduated in fine art print and allows them to show their work in a professional gallery following their yearlong free membership and mentoring at Graphic Studio Dublin.

Louise Farrelly investigates specific environments and this new body of work draws on her experiences from her recent residency in London. The diverse nature of this multicultural city provides a rich source of visual information regarding the relationships between person and place. Farrelly explores themes such as power, identity and displacement through various media.

Paula Fitzpatrick's work is heavily influenced by the ongoing changes in our social structures and in particular the current sense of destruction across society. As she states 'Political and religious leadership is being delivered through egocentric power seekers.'

David Lunney's work uses the Internet as an impetus for exploration of the physical landscape and employs the construction of sculptures as a vehicle for imagery and artworks directly inspired by them.

Nicole Tilley begins with drawing in small notebooks, which she uses as a repository of ideas to create a diverse range of media using etching and paper cutting. Classical childhood literature, magic realism and old master etching particularly influence her work. As Aidan Dunne quotes in his review of the fine-art colleges' end-of-year shows "Also brilliant in a not dissimilar way is Nicole Tilley (NCAD MA) whose rag dolls are both abject and chilling"
