Deirdre Shanley

Deirdre Shanley is a printmaker working mainly in carborundum, which she favours for the richness of colour obtained from the process and for its closeness to painting. Her inspiration is the landscape, an element of which is almost always present in her prints, which are partly representational, partly abstract.

Shanley grew up in Johnstown Bridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland. She first studied printmaking as part of a Postgraduate Diploma in Art Education at Birmingham College of Art and Design and she is a founder member of the Leinster Print Studio. She won the prize for Best Emerging Artist at Eigse in 2002.
