Barbara Rae RA b. 1943

Barbara Rae studied at Edinburgh College of Art in the sixties, was awarded a post graduate year and a travelling scholarship.

After teaching in Edinburgh Schools and Aberdeen College, Rae joined the staff of the painting department of the Glasgow School of Art in 1975. She taught there until 1996. Thereafter Rae traveled extensively to Europe, Japan, South Africa and USA. Several exhibitions showed the results of her travels.

Her work can be found in many public, corporate and private collections. Honours and affiliations include, being elected to the Royal Scottish Academy in 1992, Member, the Royal Fine Art Commission for Scotland from 1995 to 2004. Elected to the Royal Academy in 1996, and
awarded a CBE in 1999. In this decade awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College
of Art, and Honorary Doctorates from both Napier University and Aberdeen University.
