Louis le Brocquy

Louis le Brocquy was born in Dublin in 1916. His paternal grandfather came to Ireland from Belgium. His mother was a well-known figure in DublinÕs artistic life and encouraged by her, Louis left the family busines to become a painter. In 1947 Le Brocquy established himself in London as a self taught painter of considerable originality. In 1958 he married the young Irish Painter Anne Madden. They live and work in both France and Ireland. Le Brocquy is an honorary member of the Royal Hibernian Academy and a member of Aosdána.
