James Allen was born in Lurgan, County Armagh in 1941. He studied at Belfast College of
Art from 1961 - 1965 and at Brighton College of Art from 1965 - 1967. Although principally a printmaker,
he is also an accomplished painter. He was Printmaker in Residence at the Arts Council of Northern Ireland
from 1977 - 1980, and a full time manager of Belfast Print Workshop from 1980.
