Charles Cullen was born in Longford in 1939. He studied at the National College of Art and Design from 1957 to 1960. Having travelled through Spain for a year, he returned to Ireland in 1962. He was one of the founder members of the Project Arts Centre in 1966. Charles Cullen has been a lecturer in the Fine Art Faculty at the National College of Art and Design since 1971, where he is presently the Head of Painting. He is a member of Aosdána.
