Carmel Benson was born in 1950 and studied languages at UCD. She attended the Dun Laoghaire School of Art and joined the Graphic Studio in 1983. She taught lithography to students of the College of Marketing and Design. She was a part-time art teacher at Ballyfermot Senior College in Dublin from 1983 to 1984. She taught print at Dun Laoghaire College of Art until February 1999 and has retired as Director of the Graphic Studio. She now works from her studio in Wicklow and is a full time artist.
