Title: Mughal Dreams
Size: 40.5 x 30 cm
Medium: Etching
In doing this work I wished to convey my feeling of admiration for the
wonderful collection of Mughal Art in the Chester Beatty Library. The
Mughal artists showed a keen interest in nature using vibrant and
magical colours, with a sure feeling for drawing and calligraphy.
Their strong sense of decorative design was unique. Insects and birds
fly in and out of foliage, streams flow through gardens, often with
pairs of fish and duck swimming past. Flowers and exotic plants
abound. In my work I tried to show all this richness and originality
by using a decorative design, showing a feel for nature and colour
including flora and fauna.
