Title: Gerwhali Raga
Size: 31 x 25 cm
Medium: Aquatint
When I saw the Chinese scroll paintings in the Chester Beatty Library,
they reminded me of landscape I had seen two winters ago. I was doing
a residency in New Dehli and took a trip up to the mouth of the Ganges
to an area called Gerwhal. The foothills of the Himalyas were as close
to heaven as anything I have ever seen. Raga is the Indian word for
melody, thus Gerwhali Raga for the title.
