Christopher Le Brun
Title: The Ivory Tower
Size: 23.4 x 26.6 cm
Medium: Etching
'There is no single key to these etchings....Le Brun reintroduces figuration and mythology,
but he does so in a chastened fashion, well aware that these symbols cannot blaze in the full light of day.
His aim is, not so much to recover the plenitude of a vanished iconography, as to intimate as discreetly as he can,
without forcing the tone, the message of artŐs opacity. In his paintings, this is a difficult, almost impossible task,
since each successive layer of impasto is liable to obliterate, or at least obscure, its predecessor. Yet with the etching process,
a new possibility emerges: to work over the ground again and again without completely sacrificing clarity. The print becomes a palimpsest,
dense with suggestion. '
